Third type of Stall: From dead stop on clutch release in 1st gear. (no not an operator error, just seems to be not enough fuel being delivered at partial throttle) Persoanlly these are the only ones I have experienced. and its only been a few times and sporadic.

Stall, jurky and misfire

I bought my 690 duke new 2 months ago and after 3 weeks (650 miles) the fuelling problems began. Complete loss of idle, stalling, surging and misfiring. Back to the dealers for 2 weeks. They seemed to fix the issue but unfortunately 2 weeks later (400 miles) the old gremlins have returned. It is currently back with them. I fear this lean fuelling business may be beyond the local dealers capability to permanently resolve. Does anyone know if KTM Austria have a remap resolve, or, alternatively, is it possible to have it remapped independantly (tuneboy etc). I really like all other aspects of the bike and inspite of these issue am not demanding my money back (yet!).

The electronics on these bikes are quite frankly beyond the understanding and comprehension of many dealers. It is important to find a dealer whose workshop actually employs a technician who is computer literate as well as being competent in wielding a spanner.

Level 1 after-sales support is the dealer, then Level 2 is KTM UK and if that fails it is passed to Level 3 at KTM Austria. Your dealer is operating in the dark if he hasn't got the latest KTM diagnostic kit (and knows how to work it).

I've experienced some 'interesting' after-sales service from KTM and the word 'inconsistent' features rather a lot. When you find a decent workshop (and a specific technician) - stay with them!

You're new to the site so probably won't have seen this.

MonoManiacs : Tnt Stalling and throttle issues

The trouble is, if your dealer doesn't know the 690 well enough to deal with these issues, then showing them this is likely to raise more than it solves. There were new maps for the 690 Duke a while ago, if your bike is new stock since then it should have the newest map, but if it is old stock that has been in a dealer for a while it may not. Do you know what production year your Duke is?

Monomaniacs link is interesting, not sure if i should email it to the dealer though. I believe the bike is an 08 model and so is probably running an old map. They have given me a demo for now, 1870 miles on its odometer, its fuelling is excellent. Now i know what mine should be like. I guess i can only hope they get it right 2nd time around. Are there any independent guys who have the tools and know-how in the uk ?

Problem here is that i am in Northern Ireland. We only have the one dealer. To get it diagnosed by a mainland uk dealer would be a bit of a headache. Can you recommend one anyway ?

If you are ever in Scotland - probably Grant (the very experienced KTM tech) at Drysdales in Perth. Bit of a long ride from the ferry at Cairnryan but he is one man who really knows these bikes.

Thanks for the contact. 140 mile trip from Cairnryan / Stranraer if all else fails is a plan. Ironically run to Biggar on thursday last week (ÂŁ20 stena deal) was when the problems reoccurred (fantastic roads through galloway forest etc by the way!!).

Biggar? Strange place to visit unless you have an interest in gas production (pre-North Sea and Morecambe Bay) technology or Albion trucks. If you do end up planning a trip to Perth - tip as follows - Alan on the desk/parts talks sense and usually handles workshop bookings and request Grant to carry out the work. Their phone system can appear totally chaotic but once you get behind the workshop door I find them first class (apart from a couple of young lads who didn't seem to last very long).

I have this same problem with my 2007 690SM - stalling after coming to a stop and opening the throttle. I have a complete Leo Vince system with the Akro map. I’ve noticed it happens if I crack the throttle slowly. Generally if I open it quickly it won’t do it. It happens at least once a ride though most of my rides are less than 10 miles. I had the dealer do the TPS reset, but to no avail.

Additionally, the stepper motor in the throttle body failed last year and the dealer replaced it under warranty which was good because the throttle body is an $800 part. Still, even with the new throttle body and another TPS reset, the stalling is still happening. I’ll check the ground (earthing) line off the battery and try the 15 minute reset.

Lovely, I got this on my 2013 690 Duke. Literally the same thing, start it up, ride to end of road and engine will stall as dip clutch or just before. You can feel it's not clutch-related as the engine goes weak just before clutching.

I got stranded with this miles from home once and had to debug in a petrol station. Curiously, the bike would idle FINE on sidestand, but if I lent it right just sitting on it, not moving, it would stall. After rummaging my hand around the ignition bits and fingering every wire and connector that I could, it rode home in first gear.

Smells of wiring I think. Still an unsolved mystery.
