Have a look at the relevant 790/890 Facebook group and see what’s going on
I just did that, some interesting stuff on there.
I will be watching this closely as I did plan to have a 790 or 890 Duke one day as travel bike (to take in my van whilst touring). This would likely be a used bike and out of warranty so I certainly don't want to end up with a cam eater.

What’s the fix? Buy cams and have them hardened? (If you can reharden what I assume is a case hardened part)

seems your happy with the bike barring this one issue.

much like the 950/990 water pump shafts/ clutch slave? A known issue but better an issue you know instead of random stuff?

That picture of the bearing journal is dirt in the oil or more likely lack of oil by the gauling.

Doesn’t matter so much if those parts are hard I’d not, they should run on film of oil.
think about it, plain bearings are really soft material they rely on the lube

Cams are a bit different to the water pump and clutch slave mate, they should last the lifetime of the bike and guessing they’re a few more quid than a water pump shaft and seal kit. It’s also the fact that they’re cutting corners with production/materials.

Yeah totally get that, I wonder if it’s a quality control thing or if all will die?

I’m just saying if you like the bike a lot maybe something to just accept so long as it’s not the start of a snow ball for you?

bit disheartening though isn’t it?! They deffo aren’t the bikes they used to be I don’t think but then every one seems to want a bike with 50 ECU’s, anti wheelie and lean based traction ect these days but don’t want to pay £30k for a bike so I guess corners need to be cut somewhere. (Not saying that’s you just seems like bikes are turning into cars tbh)
The 1x90 bikes seem to built to a higher price point but then they cost more?!

Close but no cigar. That was a hand pallet truck which doesn't need hardened forks, so no surprise that they didn't put up any resistance.
Yes like to see how it copes with a pair of solid forks.

Someone needs to get some rockwell tests done on these damaged cams then if proven soft ktm do not have a leg to stand on.

Sad state of affairs if you spend £12-14k on a new bike and you get engine problems like this on a so called premium brand
KTM aren’t alone though
Where has the premium manufacturing gone
A friend showed me his 50 year old (unrestored) BMW R90s on Saturday and fired it up
Even after 90k miles the engine was sweet as sweet

A forum acquaintance’s £50k+ Audi RSQ3 ate its engine top end after two years.
After a couple of goes to ‘fix’ it they finally agreed to give him a new engine. That lot cost Audi £17k.
These things happen everywhere. Better than having your EV catch fire!
