890R(or 790): has anyone found or tried an extended hugger / rear fender?

As per subject line, I’m looking for an extended hugger or rear fender to keep the back of the bike - and particularly the shock/linkage - a lot cleaner than the tooo-short standard mudguard. Has anyone found one that does the job better?

Cheers, Bob

The 890R came with a piece to bolt onto the rear seat subframe/number plate holder that I’ve never fitted either. I suppose it would be considered as a mudguard over the rear wheel. However, what I’m interested in is a longer/taller hugger/blade to replace the short one that’s bolted onto the swing arm, just in front of the shock mount. Any ideas?

Producing an effective rear mudguard seems beyond the wit of motorcycle designers these days.

Triumph is the worst offender. They claim to be designed in the UK ...do the designers ever look out of the window and notice it's raining?

I had a business meeting a few years ago where one other guy turned up on a motorcycle: a Street Triple. It was raining. The bike had filled up his waterproof rucksack with water, and ruined all his documents, and the water had run down the back of his collar and soaked him to the skin!

And what's all this with the rear light that looks like someone stole a lorry mudguard and bolted it to the swinging arm...it just looks stupid!

Perhaps I'm getting old?

Wholeheartedly agree with you
One of the best designed rear mudguard on a new bike is the one from Yamaha on the Tenere 700
No muck on the number plate or rear light/rear seat - the rider stays clean and so does a pillion in the rain and furthermore the swingarm and rear shock area stays delightfully clean
Under the seat is fully cowled in and no muck can get under the seat area - the battery/tools and even the riders manual, stored under the seat are still pristine after 2 years of owning it
Well done Yamaha-you produce a stunning bike that keeps the rider clean too

Not at all. I’ve actually noticed that the low wrap-around anti-spray thingy that you mention is becoming something that accessory makers stock. I think that they’re a very backwards step stylistically and not very functional either - ugly extra unsprung weight that just gets in the way. I thought it just used to be German bikes and/or customs……

Anyway, I think I’ve found what I’m after:

It’s covers a lot more of the tyre and so should hopefully block a lot more water and road crap from being thrown over the shock, exhaust and engine.

PUIG do an extender for the stock hugger. I haven’t tried it, but it looks to be what your after. It’s a 790 part, I don’t know if it would fit the 890.
