Sorry but I can only find comparisons on 11/12 bikes models. Dunno if much has changed.

Don't really need lights though apparently the XC does have the wiring ?

The difference in 1st/2nd seems minimal between the xc and xc-w is the EXC a lot diff gearing wise?

Anything else worth knowing?

Thanks

I'm not an expert but I believe the XC has CC forks and linkage. If you need lights the EXC wiring is plug and play. Gears 1,2,3 are closer ratio similar to SX, 4,5,6 are same as EXC.

Hi Smiler,

I have an 2014 350 XC and iv had the 350 EXC too. I have been riding my XC this year mainly on MX tracks and its much more powerful than the EXC and the gearing is closer on 1 and 2 although I run 14:51 so they are pretty long. Its a fantastic bike and is really race ready as standard but iv done quite a few mods suspension being one of them. The wiring loom is there for lights if you need them but I don't. Ask away if you want any more info. N

I raced a 14 model 250 smoker one all last year. bought it new, put exc cylinder head on it for enduro, re valved the suspension, as it is very stiff like mx as standard. found it a very good machine to race. more planted on the rear with the linkage, plus the ignition revs 500 rpm more on the xc. better suspension than exc imo. and they are cheaper to buy.

Take care with the XC range. The 2 stroke will run lights, the four stroke won't - well it will but not for long. It has the SXF engine and stator and has enough electrical power to run the bike and not much left over. Especially important on bikes with no kickstart.

I thought the xc stopped coming with the light loom after 2011, I know my 250 xcf 250 never had the wiring there, as I had to make one.

XC-W/XCF-W is, as far as I know, an American anomaly. Over there some states have some strict rules about what can be street legal so to make it simple KTM have built the EXC to comply with all-state legislation. Consequently the EXC has all the road legal stuff like turn signal indicators and anti pollution gizmos. Not much (if any different) from our EXC as it leaves the factory but, as VW have discovered, you can't go claiming one thing and be operating something totally different. Over here every EXC has all the anti pollution and restriction gubbins removed at PDI

The XCF-W range is a post-PDI EU spec EXC without the lights and associated road legal wiring loom. Engine, gearbox, chassis, suspension is all EXC - just no lights, speedometer, horn and lighting loom.

The XC-F is a closed course bike, never intended to be street legal and more suited to faster cross country (XC) riding. Consequently they start with the SX-F engine, frame and suspension and add a few bits to make it suitable for cross country stuff (18" wheel, side stand, wide(r) ratio gearbox). The XCF is really just a converted motocross bike.

Pre 2011 it wasn't as clear but the general idea was there.

I have a 2011 xc 250. CC forks and no linkage. The bike is a lot different to the exc of the same year as the xc range is one year ahead like the mx bikes. So it's bodywork is the same as the 2012 exc and 2011 sx. It does have reg/rec and a full stator but the wiring is not as full exc. I had to knock up an adapter to plug in switchgear and light. The 2012 onward xc bikes have linkages.
I'm not sure what year the xc bikes moved to new forks ....

I've got a 14 300 xc. It hasn't got a exc loom but wasn't hard to adapt it to full exc spec lights horn brake lights etc just took a while to sort out the diagrams etc to get the info. My Bike has genuine KTM lights and switches so it looks and works like its from the factory.

To me the xc is the best combo of exc and husky parts combined with the extra power too it's the best Bike out the three.

The standard XC is a fantastic bike and is a converted SX but more SX.

The linkage suspension is fantastic and very adjustable, as said the standard suspension front and rear is a lot stiffer than the EXCs but again very adjustable. I had mine all done by Evo Tech and it was the best money spent as the springs were changed and rated for my weight and riding style along with re valving and changing the settings and learning how to change them too. The 4CS forks are excellent, again fully adjustable with the rebound on the right and compression on the left.
