The day before yesterday I picked up a 2024 EXC 350 F SixDays from Upper Austria, already converted by the dealer for off-road use, so all the street legal stuff is gone. I noticed that KTM has fitted a noticeably small rear sprocket with only 48 teeth. As far as I can remember they used to have 50 or more teeth.

Does anyone know why? Has the gear ratio been changed? I haven't ridden it yet.

Thanks

Nope, it is not the road use sprocket, it is definitely the one for off road use. Dealer confirmed they all have a 48 instead of the 50 (or was it 51?).
I know that Betas have a 48 as standard and older non-KTM-GasGas too. But I am still very surprised. Just rode it in first, second and third and it felt pretty good. Need to test that back to back with an older 350.

Funny enough, that the owners manual says it should be 13/46. The gear box of the 2024 compared to 2018 is completely different. Primary ratio and all gears of the 24 are significantly shorter different and that is the reason for the longer secondary ratio. I entered the data in my gear data excel sheet and that shows a very clear picture.... At 10500 rpm, the theoretical speeds in all gears but the 6th are lower although the sprocket of the 24 is smaller. In 6th gear the speed is the same.

Thank you all!

i can only comment regarding the 24 300tbi. But that now comes 13/45. Ive had to go 13/48 to get it geared right. Its now geared similar to what my 300tpi was when running 13/51
Two and four strokes are different as the smokers always had a 26 teeth primary drive. The four strokes have a 24.
