Any decent alternatives to the very good genuine Bib Mousse Gel that doesn't cost more per gram than beluga caviar? Not Pro Clean Mousse Lube please, it doesn't last long enough and dries out.

bib mousse is effectively just a form of silicone grease with a soluble element. Pipe grease works just as well if you can get it, but must be silicone not lithium etc. something like this for example.

I spent a long time talking to small chemical companies about this with a view to having a specific formula made. Samples worked well but no one will produce it in small enough quantities, we'd have had to buy tons of it.

The only serious discussion on here is if TPI is the 21st century answer to a 90s EXC “GS”!. Autolube for the 21st century?

It won’t stay that way. It’ll become race technology soon. I’m not knocking it at all.

Doing a non scientific test of this stuff (Carbusonic Silicon Grease) soon. £14.99 for a 500g tub while the Bib Mousse is £6.00 for 50g. Viscosity (thickness) of the Bib Mousse is very slightly looser but not by much.

Both have been heated up to the same temperature to test heat resistance and they both perform the same. No melting. Viscosity remains constant.

I’m now seeing if either dry out over a few days exposed to air.

So it looks like these Gibson mousses are hollow which would likely mean better feel but wouldn't last as long as the solid mousses. They're also lighter as a result. But then the manufacturer claims they last longer than the competition. I'd like to see some tests because being hollow and using talc instead of lube would mean rapid degradation IMO.

You can't mention tubliss on a mousse thread or mousses on a tubliss thread... it's like crossing the streams man.. bad things will happen.

It’s as shit as their product that’s why.

I fitted a Gibson rear tyre to local chaps 450 kxf. Good meaty tyre but it’s like made of plastic compared to even an s12. A strong cheap tyre for tracksuited yobs but not in the running for real use imo.
You would say that seeing you're a fully signed up michelin factory rider with a garage full of free tyres... apparently.

I used the Pro Clean Mousse Lube for one of my bikes and I havent worn down a Michelin mousse that fast EVER. The bucket went in the garbage bag.
Pretty sure that stuff completely fucked my rims. Made them rot from the inside.

I heard the same in the German forum. Personally I think the ultimate lube is the one that Michelin supplies with the mousses in small tubes. But ist far too expensive, almost like liquid gold. A good alternative is the BO lube from BO Oils but it can be hard to get. 24MX in Germany stock it from time to time but not always. Its a bit thicker than the Michelin lube but it keeps your mousses lubed even if you dont take them off from time to time. I use the lube excessively which always makes a friggin mess when replacing the tyre. But that pays off as my mousses always survive 80 hours +
