Ok guys, ive been reading and it seems there is very mixed feelings on what is the best way to mount your GPS.

I was going to order the KTM mount, but now im not sure if I should go for the RAM mount instead!

What do you guys think? Money is not really a issuie, I just want something that will do the job the best

I put a RAM mount on for my wee etrex GPS a month or so ago and I'm very pleased with it. I think it came to 35 quid or so total, so vastly cheaper than any of the Touratech stuff. The only problem I have found with it is that the vibes, though not enough that the GPS is going to go anywhere, have resulted in some marks on the GPS itself. They're just cosmetic, but if I had a flashier GPS that hadn't already had plenty of abuse then I'd be tempted to put a thin bit of foam or rubber inside the holder to dampen the vibes out.

The Touratech option is semi-secure, whereas the RAM one isn't.

I'll happily leave the GPS in the TT holder on the bike when I go to pay for petrol etc., but I don't think I'd risk it with a RAM one.

The TT mount also puts it on top of the dashboard so it's closer to your line-of-sight when in use.

The KTM mount does put the GPS in a great position, but I have to say (maybe because of the huge dampers on the mount) the GPS vibrates an awful lot. Not the sort of vibration that you would worry might damage the unit, quite the reverse, the mount has so much vibration padding that the unit is isolated from any harshness but is free to wobble somewhat.

I use KTM mount (actually made by TT) with the big TT holder for the Garmin 2610 I use. It is the best position, I reckon but it did vibrate too much. I added an extra bolt to it to hold it against the top of the dash. Spot on.

Were I buying now, I'd still buy the 'KTM' mount but attach a RAM mount to that.

As far as security goes, the 'easy off' RAM mount allows you to take the GPS with you when the bike's out of site whereas a thief would get the GPS out of the TT mount if you were out of sight for more than a minute.

(My TT mounts the non-locking one but don't kid yourself that the locking one's any more secure).

There is one other thing about the TT mount... I always wonder where my bollocks would end up if I went head over handlebars

If it was hiding the clocks then you didn't fit it right. Here's my Zumo mounted on the TT bar and mount, well clear of the instruments:

You need to have the mount arranged so it's at its highest:

Do you plan to be mostly offroad or road riding?

The KTM mount is probably the neatest install for the dash-mounted option. It puts the GPS high so you dont have to look down so much to look at it - especially good in traffic.

However, if youre going to be doing a lot of offroading, Id consider mounting it in the middle of the handlebars. Its better protected there - and kinda easier to glance down when youre riding standing up.

Due to the way things turned out, I didn my portugal trip with 2 GPS's. One mounted high - the other between the bars. Most of the offroad navigation was done with the bar-mounted GPS. Most of the road navigation was done with the dash-mounted GPS - and both positions seemed to be best for the respective duties.

The only other big question is Zumo or TomTom Rider!!?? Im thinking Zumo!
Zumo. I've got one (as you've seen) and whilst it's not perfect, I've heard a lot fewer complaints about it than the TomTom.
