KTM RC 125 Gear Position Sensor Question

Calling out to all you KTM gurus 😁

I have a 2016 KTM RC 125 with a blown engine that I picked up cheap. I've gone for a replacement engine rather than repairing the old one.

I have chance of another engine but it's from a later 2017 model RC 125

The only change I can see on the newer shape engine is the gear position sensor is different from the older shape engine. The new shape gear sensor has only 3 wires and the old shape has 6 wires!

Does anybody know if there is a way to make the new shape motor work with the older shape wiring? The gear selector drums are also different

I'm not sure If that will work as the ECU's are also different on the newer models. Have you fitted a newer engine in a older bike?

We'll that's not good, I've already fitted the engine, I thought about taking the old loom from my old engine,
But I haven't compered it to the new one yet. Thanks for the advice

The earlier engine uses 2 black plugs and the later engine (newer) uses 1 single white plug. Cut a long story short, there's no way of using the incorrect engine in your bike as the wiring is different

The gear selector drum on the new shape engine is different, hence why the gear position sensor it also different. 14-16 uses the 2 black plugs, 17 onwards uses the white single plug
