Anyone had there head cut on a TPI yet?

I’m guessing the electronics will naturally adjust to suit rather than any tweaks required?

Because every 2t Ktm ever built for the masses works better on a head mod. I can’t see TPI being any different.

TPI is good for sure but sometimes an itch just has to be scratched. You can’t tell me Pro TPI won’t have a better head on them, that just won’t happen.

Have you ridden a tpi yet ?

It’s the best off road bike I’ve ever ridden.
Everything, even down to the suspension is ready to race.
I went on Ozzy’s last weekend and was instantly quicker and more at home on his tpi than my 17.
I could race it straight out the crate and be more than happy with it.

Just wondering that’s all.

I don’t doubt the TPI is mega. Not yet ridden one but I just can’t help but think that the head would be possible to improve.

KTM will (I would expect) have made the physical properties of the motor like any other. It’s designed to operate anywhere in the world and on any grade fuel like all other bikes they make. The head can always be tidied up.

Someone will try one I reckon. It might be a waste of time but I can’t see KTM sending them out with the most optimum head as standard. It doesn’t follow their MO.

Worth every penny, and probably the most complete production bike ktm has ever made its great
Yes steve’s flagged up some poor haphazzard routing around the oil tank
But thats easily fixed, the bikes fast and behaves incredibly well its just inspiring and begs to be ridden hard ktm have really delivered here so much so the supply has stalled in a very amateurish near sighted way!

As you say. Obviously I belong to a miniscule minority as I am saying the TPI isnt much better than the 2017 carbed bike. Not a way to make friends here after all that overwhelming praise for the TPI's, but thats just my personal view and no one needs to agree. I cant stress enough that I am talking about a close to perfect set up carbed bike in comparison to the TPI.

Personally my 17/300 with the Keihin fits my old man riding style much better than the nervous and aggressive 250TPI and I am happy that I could get rid of it. I am convinced the 300TPI would have been the better bike for me as I like to use a higher gear and use its torque. People constantly telling me they're faster with the TPI than with its 17 predecessors as its engine is so smooth. The truth is, and I wonder why this isnt more in the focus of discussions, that the TPI's suspensin is in fact much better than the 17 WP-stuff used earlier. Though I didnt like it even I was faster with the 250TPI in the fast bits, but that has nothing to do with its motor.
Whatever, the build quality of the oil system isnt the best, but nothing too serious and it will improve, just a bit of time is needed.

Both TPI's are brilliant, all you need to do is choose the right one for you. I simply choosed the wrong one. It pisses me no end that I bought the 250 instead of the 300.

Coming back to the headline of the thread, no it doesnt need a head mod. In the words of Chwanz ride the fucking thing and be happy!

One thing I think the TPI has got people past is not quite right jetting. Not wrong but just not as clean/balanced as it could be. When the 17s arrived most really had an issue jetting as any knowledge of the Keihin didn’t transfer over. People are now getting it sussed with the Mikuni. People still find a noticeable improvement on 17s after head mods no matter how well it is jetted. TPI is spot on for air, altitude and load etc but the combustion process is a separate issue really and a head mod or trick head helps the combustion process not what feeds the motor. It’s all about refinement. Standard heads have a lot of safety margin built in.

I can’t understand why people think TPI already has the perfect head fitted? It won’t. I think it’s worth a try, that’s all.

I don't know the details of the TPI system, does it have a Lambda probe in the exhaust? The reason that I ask is because if it does then the probe will being the thing that monitors the free oxygen in the exhaust and therefore the air fuel ratio. (They can still be used when the mixture is richer than stoichiometric which means that there is no free oxygen in the exhaust I believe by monitoring the temperature of the exhaust gas). The CPU will then be able to adjust the mixture strength within the boundary of the map.

EDIT...Just done a bit of googling, it looks like the the system does not use a lambda probe.

When I had the head mod done on my 200 there was no need to alter fuelling/jetting.
