One of my riding buddys has purchased a 24 EXC 350 and we found that it has a very small rear sprocket with just 46 teeth. I could ride the bike in easy terrain and it felt no different to the older models that came with a 50 (or was it 52?) rear sprocket. I reckon they changed the primary gearing and other stuff inside the gear box.

Has anyone tried something bigger, like 48 or can give me a hint what would be ideal for hard (not extreme) enduro?

Thanks, it was me who started the thread you mentioned. I just forgot about it

My '23 model came with 14/52 standard. I'm now running 14/50 as its really just used for rallies and green laning. It will sit happily at 60mph in the middle of the rpm range - about 5500/6000rpm.
Thats a different story bc on the new ones KTM changed every single gear including the primary drive. The bike doesn't feel different though it has that rather small rear sprocket with only 46 teeth.
