You do need to take tank and side panels off. But you do anyway to change the air filter,
I think I'll pass on that then, I'll just clean the main filter every couple of years (which is about 6k miles for me on that bike).

Also I've not yet seen any grit type stuff in my air filter, just lots of very light weight crud which is no doubt dried out bugs and maybe a little vegetation.

PowerCell pre filters can be changed without removing any panels.

Old tights are a lot cheaper though.
I fit mine by removing the ends of the ducts sliding the socks over and refitting the ends. Only because tights are much lighter material and if they're not securely fixed I can see them getting sucked into the airbox. You don't need to do that with the heavier Powercell ones.
But it's no bother as they only get changed when I've got the tank off to get to the airbox anyway.

I used to have the KTM socks. They are a good compromise.

I probably wouldn't bother either if I was only doing 3000 miles a year. At the time I started using socks I was doing 10,000 plus on the 1190, involving many trips away from home with no access to the spanners.

You’re not in Yorkshire then.
After a lovely day yesterday, it is absolutely vile on the North Yorks Moors. It’s either chucking it down or that heavy drizzle that soaks you in seconds.
We've made it a holiday rest day and are watching the athletics on tv.
Plenty of wine in stock but we were planning on lunch out so will have to be beans on part bake roll and crisps.

The roads round here are getting me desperate to get my new little bike on the 1st.
More GS’s than you could imagine though but most are doing about 45mph.

Time to prepare it for winter storage.
Me also, in fact I haven't ridden either of mine in Sept (except from taking the 1190 for an MOT).
I will ACF the 1190 tomorrow.
The 990 needs an MOT and a service and then that too will be getting the ACF treatment and be put to bed.

Sept was a wash out over here, and when the sun finally did come out (for a week) I was away.
But all is not lost, I have a new toy coming next week... a winter hack.:)
